Hi y'all,
We've been unable to source the right parts for the CD players, so I've purchased another one.
It's a TEAC CD-P1440 cd player, BUT with no operating instructions. As its operation is a bit unusual, I hope to be able to master it soon and get back to using some Cds. (If anyone has a set of instructions, I'd like to hear from you).
I have also purchased a second turntable to assist with the playing of 78 rpm records. It's been a bit difficult changing needles midway through the programme, so I hope the 2nd player eliminates those problems.
The book we had to bypass reading because it was on a Cd is scheduled to be started at the end of this 13 week period.

And, don't forget, I would like to hear from anybody who thinks they could take over this session on Oamaru Heritage Radio from me. Assistance in resources and equipment is available to the right person to establish a home studio. Commitment and enthusiasm are the only requirement. Training will be given provided you can get operational before I pop my clogs (which could happen any day). There is no requirement to follow the format I have established. If you take over, it will be your programme, but the heritage aspect should not be neglected.
This postion can be worked from anywhere in the South Island.

Here is the programme I envisage broadcasting over the next 13 weeks:
Note, since getting this particular PC, I've been unable to succesfully 'cut and paste' to this blog page without the script pulling to the left. This month it is worse than usual.
Just remember, the programme times are 5.30, 6pm, 7.30 and 9pm, with Radio Archives at 6.30 and Tape Archives about 10 or 15 past 8, and weather forecasts at 5pm and 9pm.

Gidday, and a Happy New Year to you.
There's to be a change in the projected programme.
I have three cd players. At present they are all unreliable. A repair man is endevouring to source new parts for each, so that they can again be used with confidence.
In the meantime, I am not using cds.
The next book to be read is listed as "Scott and Amundsen - Their Race To The Pole". But as this book is on a cd, I have shelved that programme for the time being.
Instead I will present a book that is on a cassette tape.
It is "The Constant Gardener" written and read by John le Carré. It is in 16 parts, each of about 20 minutes, and will start on January 14th.
I hope this meets with your approval.
Cheers,
Trevor

Greetings:
My health is failing and if there is anyone in the South Island who feels they could take over my studio and resources, please let me or Oamaru Heritage Radio know. (Emails are ohr at mail.com or ohr at xtra.co.nz respectively). I work from a satellite studio, not the main studio in Itchen Street, and it is relatively simple to transfer the equipment to another site.
Whoever takes over will have to meet the standards expected by Oamaru Heritage Radio Trust.
You may have noticed a shift during the last 3 months. At 6pm we were to be listening to Beyond Our Ken, but I considered the quality of the recordings to be below standard, so I abandoned this programme and inserted Round the Horne here instead. It contains the same gang of misfits..
And in sorting through a ton and a half of 78rpm records looking for TANZA and other New Zealand pressings that a friend is collecting, I came across alot of discs that I considered should be given some air time.
So recently I've started the first 90 minutes of my programme with records spinning at 78rpm. Many of the tunes that get played have probably never been played on radio for the last 70 or 80 years. You are hearing them for what is likely to be the first and only time this century that they are given an airing.
Here's what's coming up. The 6 o'clock slot will be given over to a 50s science-fiction programme from the BBC. Charles Chiltern wrote and produced "Journey Into Space". I think that in this country we heard only the first 12 episodes (if that), but there are more than 50 in all.
After the Samuel Pepys readings finish the book is about Scott and Amundsen's race to the south pole. I hope you find it interesting.

Regular programmes (Every Tuesday at around the same time) are:
4.00 90 mins at 78 revs: A motley collection of 78 rpm records located in the store-room, brought out for an airing.
6.00 BBC serial: Journey into Space, by Charles Chilton. (50 episodes).
6.30 An item from the archives of wireless, - a recent item or something a lot older.
8.15 A cassette from the collection of the Silver Fern Tape Recording Club, recorded by Club members for members.

Kia ora from one of the 'away' studios of Oamaru Heritage Radio. Thanks to the wonders worked by our tech wizard, not all presenters now have to physically be in the Itchen Street Studio. I, for one, don't have to leave my house, 100 km north of Oamaru, to be able to bring you my weekly offering.
Sometimes things go wrong.
Two weeks ago, I turned the microphone on as the intro theme finished, and --nothing. Eventually I set up a jury rig that I've been using in the interim, and although it works, it's not ideal.
Everything should be back in order next Tuesday (April 23rd). I hope so.

Please note that my email address for communications about Oamaru Heritage Radio is
ohr at mail.com.
This is distinct from the address for listening to our radio station, which is
www.ohr.nz. Don't mix the two up.
